The couple

The couple’s arrival, and the flight away

Most couples use the helicopter for one of two moments: arriving at the ceremony, or leaving the reception.

  • Arrive at the ceremony, with the landing timed to the guests already seated
  • Leave the reception for a first night away, or fly on to a honeymoon airport
  • Two passengers with luggage fit a small helicopter easily, and we tell you what is possible for the dress
  • Our client Natalie H. wrote on Trustpilot: “Stress free and the most amazing helicopter was a great entrance to the wedding.”

Family and guests

Fly the family, the wedding party or special guests

A single helicopter carries up to eight passengers, and more than one can fly together.

  • Parents, grandparents or bridesmaids can travel with the couple, within the seats and the weights
  • A larger party flies in more than one helicopter, timed to the same arrival
  • We confirm the weights and the luggage with you so everyone fits

Before you book

What the venue needs to know

A wedding venue is a private site, so the rules for landing there matter. This is how we handle them.

Permission

We need the venue’s and the landowner’s agreement before any landing. In a built-up area the CAA’s permission is needed as well, under the Rules of the Air Regulations 2015. We ask for what is needed and tell you what we hear.

Daylight

The CAA’s guidance for private landing sites says a field that has not been surveyed is for use by day and away from built-up areas. For an evening arrival we plan a surveyed site or a nearby airfield and a car.

Space and safety

We look at the size of the field, the trees and the approach, and tell the venue where guests should stand and what to secure: hats, veils, confetti and loose décor. A short briefing from the pilot keeps everyone clear.

Very large events

The Rules of the Air restrict landing near an organised outdoor assembly of more than 1,000 people. A wedding of that size needs extra permission, so tell us the guest numbers.

Fees and rules at the venue

Some venues publish their own helicopter terms. Matfen Hall in Northumberland, for example, says on its own page that helicopters land on the lawn in daylight only, and that non-residents pay a fee. We check the terms at your venue.

Neighbours

The CAA’s guidance encourages talking to neighbours about helicopter activity. We suggest the venue lets nearby homes know the time of the arrival.

How it works

Book your helicopter for your wedding in three steps

  1. 1Tell us where and whenThe date, how many of you are flying, where you want to land, and if you would like to return the same day or later.
  2. 2We agree the landing and your priceWe contact the airfield or site, ask for permission and agree a plan B. You then receive one clear price. Landing fees charged by the site are shown where they apply.
  3. 3Fly from BatterseaArrive at the London Heliport 10 minutes before departure. Your helicopter flies the direct line, above the roads.

Cost

How much is a helicopter for your wedding?

There is no single price for this flight, because it changes with the helicopter, the date, how many of you are flying, how long the helicopter waits and the landing fees at the other end.

Helicopters are priced by flying time, not by the mile. Tell us your plan and a charter specialist sends one clear price, any time of day or night.

  • The type of helicopter, from the AS355 to the Agusta 109 Grand and the H145
  • The date and the time of day
  • One way, return, or a return with waiting time or an overnight stay
  • Landing and handling fees at the other end

For examples of what other routes cost, see our helicopter hire prices page and how helicopter charter costs are calculated.

Before you fly

What to know before flying for your wedding

Where we land

We agree the landing site with the venue and the landowner before you commit. Every landing is subject to permission and site suitability, and we always agree a plan B, such as a nearby airfield and a car.

Luggage and weights

Soft-sided bags fit a helicopter hold better than hard suitcases. Tell us how many bags you have, and each passenger’s weight, when you book, and we will confirm that everything fits.

Weather

Helicopters fly in suitable weather only. If the flight is cancelled because of the weather, you pay nothing, and we will work with you on the earliest alternative. Check conditions on our Battersea Heliport weather page. See also helicopter charter and the weather.

Timing and booking ahead

Arrive at the London Heliport 10 minutes before departure. Ask us as soon as you have the venue and the date, because the landing has to be agreed, and book earlier for summer Saturdays and larger parties.

A car at the other end

Our partner Executive Global Travel can meet you with a chauffeur car, timed to the helicopter, so if the flight moves, the car moves with it.

Getting to the heliport

The London Heliport is on the south bank of the Thames at Bridges Court, Battersea SW11 3BE. See getting there and the opening hours.

Questions

Helicopter charter for your wedding: your questions answered

Still unsure? Call +44 20 7781 8094 any time.

How much does wedding helicopter hire cost?

The price changes with the helicopter, the date, the distance, how many of you are flying, any waiting time and the landing fees at the venue. Tell us your venue and date and we send one clear quote. See helicopter hire prices for examples.

Can a helicopter land at my wedding venue?

Possibly. We need the venue’s and the landowner’s agreement and a suitable site, and in a built-up area the CAA’s permission as well. We ask for what is needed. Our guide can a helicopter land at my venue? explains what we look at.

How much space does a helicopter need?

It depends on the helicopter, the trees and the approach. We look at a map and photographs of your site, and often a pilot checks it. We do not quote a single figure, because every site differs.

Can the helicopter land in the evening?

Fields that have not been surveyed are for daylight use only, so an evening arrival usually means a nearby airfield and a car. For a late departure we plan a surveyed site.

How many people can the helicopter carry?

The AS355 carries up to 5 passengers, the Agusta 109 Grand up to 6 and the H145 up to 8. A larger wedding party can fly in more than one helicopter.

Will the dress fit?

Usually, yes. Tell us the dress and the number of people and we check the space and the doorway. A bag or a cover helps keep a long dress clean, and we advise you on the day.

What if it rains or the wind is too strong?

If the flight is cancelled because of the weather, you pay nothing. We agree a plan B in advance, such as a car or a different landing site. See helicopter charter and the weather.

How long does the flight take?

From the London Heliport it is about 15 to 20 minutes to Ascot, 20 to 25 minutes to the Sussex coast, and about 25 to 40 minutes to the Cotswolds. Add 10 minutes to arrive at the heliport.

Can the helicopter fly us away after the reception?

Yes, within the daylight and the venue’s hours. We can fly you to the honeymoon airport or to a hotel, and arrange a car for your luggage.

How far ahead should I book?

As soon as you have the venue and the date, because the landing has to be agreed. Summer Saturdays book early. Our team is on the phone 24/7 on +44 20 7781 8094.
