On your first helicopter charter you arrive at the heliport, are met by the handling staff, receive a safety briefing, and are escorted to the helicopter. Wait until you are told before approaching, keep clear of the rotors and tail, and wear your seat belt. The flight itself is quieter and smoother than many people expect.

Arriving at the heliport
You arrive at the London Heliport at the time on your booking confirmation. Heliport staff meet you; the apron is not open to the public, so you are always escorted. If you are not sure how to get there, see how to get to the London Heliport.
Luggage and weights
Bags go into the helicopter’s luggage hold. Soft bags are easiest to load. Every helicopter has weight limits, which is why we ask for passenger weights in advance. Tell us beforehand if you have anything large or unusual.
The safety briefing
The crew or handlers give a short safety briefing before you board. It covers how to approach the helicopter, how to fasten and release your seat belt, where the exits are and what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency. Ask questions if anything is unclear.
Boarding
Do not approach the helicopter until a member of staff or the crew tells you to. Walk to it, do not run, and keep clear of the tail rotor. Rotors may still be turning, in which case you are escorted. On arrival, stay seated until the handlers are present. Keep loose items and hats secure, as the rotors create a strong wind, and keep any pets securely restrained.
During the flight
Helicopters are noisier than a car but quieter than many people expect, and the cabin is usually smooth in settled weather. You may be given headsets to talk comfortably. You will see more than from a plane, because the aircraft flies low. Photography is generally fine; ask the crew first.
Landing and leaving
Stay seated until the rotors stop or the handlers arrive, then leave in the direction you are shown. Luggage is unloaded for you. For the weather, night flying and the booking process, see how weather decides a flight and how to book a private helicopter.
